Structure of Man
Man is a tripartite being. He is identified as soul having a spirit living in a body.
Spirit, Soul and Body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Spirit of man
Spirit of man is from God. God breathed His life into the nostril of Adam.
Genesis 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Spirit is immortal in nature.
Spirit is a link to the spirit world. It is the source in which God communicates with man and vice versa.
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Soul of man
Soul of the man was formed while God breathed His breath of life into Adam.
Genesis 2:7b...and man became a living soul.
Soul has the reasoning ability to communicate and conveys thoughts, ideas and feelings through our body with the three worlds - heaven, earth and hell. It can feel, reason out, decide, communicate, react.
Soul is immortal in nature. Though our soul is invisible, either it will be given over to eternal misery in hell due to sin or accepted to live for ever in the presence of God as the family of God due to the righteousness of God.
Daniel 12:2
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Matthew 10:28
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Revelation 21:3-4
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Soul has at least three compartments or agencies within. Mind, Will and Emotions. Even Mind has at least two planes such as, imagination and dreams & visions.
Mind
Mind has the reasoning ability.
Will
Will makes the final decision.
Emotion
Emotions add vigor for life either in happiness or in sadness. All the unforgiveness and bitterness lie within the emotions.
Life continues
Soul has the conscience of life even after physical death. Keeps all the memories of life.
Luke 16:23
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Reasoning power of the mind is very dominant even after the physical death. They can feel the heat, torment, rejection disobedience etc while in hell.
Luke 16:24
“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ He continues to speak;
Luke 16:28
for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’
Place of Torment
Hell is a place of torment. If your soul goes there it is a tormenting place for ever and ever.
Luke 13:28
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
In heaven too, those souls who have been beheaded and tortured, feel the torment and torture they have gone through while in the earth and their emotions demand God the just judgment.
Revelation 6:9-10
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Soul carries every feeling and record of our actions while we were in earth and travels along with our spirit at the time of death.
Your Body
Body is made from the elements of earth. It is the shell of man in which spirit and soul resides. Body helps man to be in motions and achievements. Without body man is an invisible immortal soul. Body is mortal in nature. Body undergoes torment in earth as well as in hell. However those who are born again, their mortal body transforms to immortal at the time of resurrection from the dead.
Job 5:7
Yet man is born to trouble,
As the sparks fly upward.
Proverbs 11:17
The merciful man does good for his own soul,
But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
Job 14:22
But his flesh will be in pain over it,
And his soul will mourn over it.”
Matthew 10:28
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
The adornment, the beautification and care and the protection we do for our body is a waste unless you take care of your soul and sprit according to the Word of God. You must be born again, you must lead a holy life, and you must honour God in all your circumstances. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Defilement to the temple will be judged by God in hell fire. But those who are for Jesus there is no Judgment.
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 3:16
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
Let us pray a short prayer
Father in Jesus name I commit my body soul and spirit in Your hand. Please forgive me of my sins and lead me through the truth. I declare I am what I am because of Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins. His blood has washed my sins and made me perfect. I decide to walk in the perfect love of God in Jesus name. Thank You Lord for the indwelling presence of God within me through Jesus name. Amen
